Legend has it that Verdejo came to Spain from Africa via the Islamic occupation, though these days it is considered to be an autochthonous variety. Either way, it is nowhere more at home than on the high plains of Rueda in Old Castile, where it excels in making big, aromatic whites full of character. This unoaked bottling has a pungent herbaceous character, like a freshly cut hayfield. Think Sauvignon Blanc with a little extra apricot. (NT 18/10/17)
