Yannick Amirault is regarded as among the best red winemakers in the extensive Loire valley, and he is also among the most conscientious. He ought to have taken over from his father, but a difference over chemical fertilizers (Yannick is against) led to him setting up on his own, instead. Le Grand Clos is the most historical cru in Bourgeuil. Dense, harmonious, and slightly spiced, the quality of the Loire`s astonishing 2014 vintage shines through. Drink it now if you like - it is very drinkable - or keep it for 20 years; this is a style of wine that rewards cellaring, but is rarely given the chance. (NT 19/10/17)
