2014 Taupenot-Merme Morey-St-Denis Riotte

Secondary Description
One of the leading premier crus in Morey-St-Denis, the 2014 La Riotte opens up with a salvo of big cherry fruit. It is floral but also displays some roasted character from the reduction. The tannins are big but well knit and the strucutre make this a wine to stick in the cellar for a while. (CW 03/11/15)

The 2014 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru La Riotte has a stony, earthy bouquet -- this is more from the earth than the air. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry with fine tannin, a little graininess to the texture, but I appreciate the harmony and delicacy on the finish; although, I would like a little more material to come through as it matures. 88-90 points

Here too the expressive nose reflects aromas from the red side of the fruit spectrum along with gentle earth, floral and sauvage hints. While the medium weight flavors are not quite as refined as those of the Combe d`Orveau they do possess a bit more power on the delicious if mildly lean finish. This may very well flesh out as the tannins seem phenolically mature. 89-91 points

Located in the middle of the Morey appellation, La Riotte makes comparatively muscular wines. There’s a touch of reduction here, but the wine opens in the glass. savoury, mineral and complex with plum and black cherry fruit and good texture and volume. Drink 2019-26. 94 points
