2014 Taupenot-Merme Mazoyeres Chambertin
Secondary Description
There`s complex spice and mineral on the nose. This is silkier and more weightless than the Charmes-Chambertin Romain Taupenot has fashioned an ethereal 2014 Mazoyeres. The wine becomes much more expressive in the mouth with loads of aroma on the finish. Overall slightly closed and reduced but there is a super wine lurking elegantly here. (CW 03/11/15)

The 2014 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru has a crisp blackberry and bilberry-scented nose, more reticent than the Charmes-Chambertin at the moment and yet it is undeniably extremely focused. There is a subtle marine influence here that adds a little intrigue, some "je ne sais quoi." The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black fruit struck through with a keen thread of acidity. There is a little more body and weight on the finish compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, a residue of cold stone and a little pepper on the aftertaste. You come away thinking...that is a very serious wine. Cellar it for 4-5 years and you should have an outstanding counterpart to the domaine`s 2014 Charmes-Chambertin. 93-95 points

A ripe yet distinctly cool and ultra-fresh nose combines notes of various red berry fruit scents, earth, herbal tea and a soupçon of animale. There is excellent cut and punch to the notably muscular and intense middle weight plus flavors that are well-balanced, impressively lon g, complex and harmonious. Note well though that this is very firmly structured and will need plenty of time to fully mature. 92-94 points

Taupenot-Merme is one of the few producers to make a Mazoyères as well as a Charmes-Chambertin. This is the better of the two, partly because of the presence of so many small berries (millerands) in the bunches. Savoury, spicy and succulent with fine tannins, bright acidity, stylish oak and a fine, silky finish. Superb. Drink 2019-30. 97 points
