2014 Taupenot-Merme Gevrey-Chambertin Bel-Air
Secondary Description
Bel-Air is the only parcel next to Clos de Beze that isn`t a GRanc Cru and it has exactly the same soil type as Ruchotte - it`s very stony and rocky. The fruit is more red here. On the attack there is good, penetrating acidity - a bit of drive. There is good freshness and a long, mineral finish. The texture is linen rather than silk here and this is a wine for the longer term. (CW 03/11/15)

The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Bel Air has a tightly wound, slightly floral bouquet that just needs to develop a little more intensity. The palate has a citrus-fresh entry, quite minerally and transparent with a fine line of acidity; it is precise towards the Morey-like finish that is stern and laconic at the moment, but it should find its voice with time. 90-92 points

Reduction. There is however good freshness and detail to the utterly delicious, complex and mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that display a taut muscularity as well as a sophisticated mouth feel as the fine-grained tannins are especially refined on the saline and impressively intense finish. This too is really quite good and worth checking out. 90-92 points

One of the few producers to make Bel-Air (alas, given how wonderful this cool, east-facing
site can be), Romain Taupenot has produced a deliciously fragrant, elegant wine from hisparcel of 35-year-old vines. Refreshing, pure and ethereal, with crunchy acidity and fine tannins. Drink 2018-26. 96 points
