2014 Taupenot-Merme Charmes Chambertin
Secondary Description
Initial sniff quite dumb. There`s reduction but with air the wine reveals more mineral on the nose than fruit. On the palate the wine grows from front to back, taking on more density. The tannins are full on but very silky indeed. (CW 03/11/15)

The 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a pretty, quite floral bouquet with wilted rose petal infusing the brambly red berry fruit, nicely defined and more expressive than the Corton Rognet at the moment. The palate is succulent and fresh on the entry with a gentle grip in the mouth, quite saline and structured; it is more Mazoyères than Charmes in some ways, demonstrating impressive density and backbone on the finish. This is a sublime expression of the vineyard, a great wine with a long future ahead. 93-95 points

Here the pretty, fresh and even airy nose is distinctly floral in character with lovely notes of mostly red currant, earth and soft underbrush nuances. There is good richness to the round and solidly well-concentrated flavors that culminate in a dusty, palate coating and beautifully long finish. This isn`t as structured as the Mazoyères but will certainly require at last 7 to 8 years of restraint. 91-94 points

Sited immediately below Chambertin, this 0.56 h ectare parcel is plush, sweet and very drinkable, even at this young age. Juicy, transparent and subtly oaked, showing length,
balance and finesse, this is a Grand Cru red Burgundy that isn’t trying too hard. Drink 2019-27. 96 points
