The Château Olivier 2014 has a light, slightly muddied nose compared to the more precise Carbonnieux tasted alongside. I would have liked more animation at this stage. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, grippy black fruit with an uncomplicated, saline finish. Not a bad Pessac-Léognan, but still a couple of steps behind its peers 86-88 points

Like its white counterpart, this is all about elegance, delicacy and finessse. Forward and juicy, with refreshing acidity, sweet oak and flavours of plum, damson and black cherry. Assured winemaking in a minor key. 91 points
