2014 Montrose (St-Estephe)
Secondary Description
The biggest blockbuster of the trip, I think. Very Cabernet dominated and so perfumed. In the mouth it is big and elegant with finely woven tannins and a beautiful texture. It`s graphitey, but has other mineral notes, some salinity, a fabulously linear palate and it`s cool. Perfectly ripe, but there`s no warmth, it tastes very fine indeed and is a very intellectual wine. I think in twenty years or so, this 2014 Montrose will have claret-heads salivating over its complexity and classic styling. (CW 02/04/15)

The 2014 Montrose has an engaging and complex bouquet with black fruit, a pencil box, pressed violet and warm earth scents, gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with excellent tannins that frame the mineral-rich black fruit (in fact, this is one of the most mineral-laden 2014 Left Banks I tasted.) The oak is seamlessly integrated, and the finish has real panache. Beautifully, and it`s just entering its drinking window. Tasted at Bordeaux Index`s 10-Year-On tasting. 96 points
