Jean-Marc Quarin
This wine is moving up, slowly but surely. The new plantings of Cabernet Franc are part of it. Elegant, fruity nose. Refined mouthfeel, presence on the midpalate, soft. Fine tannins. Long finish. Delicious.
A blend of 80% merlot, 20% cabernet franc. 92 points

The Château la Gaffelière 2014 is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The nose feels a little overripe and smudged, not really the traditional La Gaffelière style. The palate is better with grainy tannin, good depth of fruit and a rather conservative but nicely focused finish. Apparently there will be around 40% new oak on the final blend, which would make it a more balanced wine. Let`s see. 87-89 points

La Gafellière is a comparatively large property that is now back to the same assemblage it used in the 1950s, thanks to replanting. This is a serious wine with underlying limestone freshness, well structured tannins, an alluring bouquet and fine texture. 94 points
