The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Murgers was showing a touch of struck match reduction on the nose. It will be interesting to see if that remains in situ post bottling. The palate is sweet and pastille-like on the entry with fleshy red berry fruit infused with brown spice and subtle earthy tones. There is a pleasing structure here, more backbone than the Vougeot Petit Vouget with a slightly brittle finish. 89-91 points

A much more deeply pitched nose features plenty of earth, game and spice scents that add considerable breadth to the mostly dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent mid-palate density to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that possess much better finishing depth on the balanced finish. 90-92 points
