2014 Henri Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Chaignots
Secondary Description
The malolactic fermentations all finished in June this year and were racked early in the junior appellations to retain the accessibility. Greg thinks that in 2014 a long spell in wood isn`t going to make the wines more interesting. The 2014 Gouges Nuits-St-Georges Chaignots offers perfumed, red cherry fruit on the nose. The palate is medium bodied with good acidity, impact and presence, fine tannins, depth and complexity on the finish. (CW 05/11/15)

The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru les Chaignots was showing a touch of mushroom and leafiness on the nose when I tasted it (and incidentally this is 100% destemmed, so it was not from "les raffles"). The palate is better with fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit, quite firm tannin in the mouth, a little conservative perhaps but with appreciable salinity developing on the strict finish. Classic in style, give this just a couple of years in bottle. 87-89 points

(from 30+ year old vines). As is usually the case this is notably spicier with its more elegant nose of violet, plum and dark raspberry that is trimmed in a touch of earth. The supple and refined medium-bodied flavors exude a fine bead of minerality while delivering excellent length on the solidly structured and ever-so-mildly austere finale where a touch of Nuits style tannins emerge. 92-94 points
