2014 Haut-Batailley (Pauillac)

Secondary Description
At Haut-Batailley they are doing more fruit selection these days. Tasted twice, the first time it showed slightly tougher tannins, but perfumed, black fruit and good length. The second time a few days later and not drizzling so much, it showed ripe, sweet fruit aaand Charm! The tannins were showing more woven and all was supple. Compared to Batailley, this is more perfumed and suave, while Batailley is more about power. (CW 30/03/15)

The Château Haut-Batailley 2014 is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot picked between 25 September and 9 October at 33hl/ha. The nose seems to revel in that Cabernet Sauvignon. sensual black fruit on the nose mixed with minerals and incense aromas. It offers knockout precision. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin that are enveloped in pure black cherry fruit mixed with blueberry and even hints of orange rind. There is already plenty of energy coiled up in this Haut-Batailley – a splendid Pauillac in the making. 91-93 points

Made by the same winemaking team as Grand-Puy-Lacoste, this is produced on sandier soils and is generally lighter in style. Elegant and forward, with plenty of perfume, bright acidity and medium weight tannins, it`s a fresh, refined Pauillac that gets weightier in the glass. 92 points
