2014 Clarence de Haut-Brion (Pessac-Leognan)
Secondary Description
The Clarence de Haut-Brion has more fruit coating the tannins. There is juicy fruit and good energy and length. It also seems to have a better ripeness level than Chapelle de la Mission. This is enjoyable and has some of the sophistication of the main Haut-Brion wine, if not quite its weight and density. (CW 16/04/15)

The Le Clarence de Haut Brion 2014 is a blend of 80% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. (There was a lot of Merlot due to a lot of deselection from the Grand Vin.) It has an immediately engaging bouquet, perhaps better definition than the Chapelle de la Mission, a little more mineralité coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, cohesive, tighter and more linear than the La Chapelle with longer persistence on the finish. Excellent. 89-91 points

Deeply coloured, savoury, compact and pretty tight at the moment, this tastes like a wine that belongs to Haut-Brion. Mineral, taut and refreshing, but with well judged tannins and good underlying fruit, it benefited from the demotion of 21% of the crop to a third wine. 92 points
