Just west of Sancerre by the city of Bourges lies the smaller, less well-known appellation of Menetou-Salon. But here you will find wines made with every bit as much cut and thrust as in the more celebrated easterly neighbour. 100% Sauvignon Blanc, the Chateau Maupas Menetou-Salon is a cracking example of what the appellation can achieve. From hand harvested fruit that has been cool fermented in stainless steel, the result is a spicy, intense wine in which the racy citric fruit is balanced by subtler floral elements and the underlying chalky texture.
