Chateau de Maupas
Chateau de Maupas is an estate with a chequered history and an imposing castle that dates back to early medieval times. The estate is owned by the Marquis de Maupas, but winemaking here has been in the hands of the Remoortere family for two generations. Joseph Remoortere was a cereal farmer who arrived in the area in the 1960s planning to expand his cereal business - instead he was drawn into wine, and ended taking over winemaking at Chateau de Maupas. More recently, his son Antoine has taken over. The domaine is mainly planted to Sauvignon Blanc, which responds very nicely to the mixture of limestone, chalk and flint soils here. (NT 03/11/16)
