Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne Petits Monts

Neal Martin

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Petits-Monts has a succinct bouquet with very delineated maraschino and blueberry fruit over-layered by wonderful mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, very fine tannin and fresh in the mouth, with a touch of spice developing on the finish. You know, this is a fine Les Petits-Monts...but you instinctively know that Amélie Berthaut will make even better ones in the future. 90-92 points

The youthful Amélie Berthaud has inherited this 0.1-hectare parcel from her mother’s side of the family and the cuvée will grow as she takes back more vines from the current tenant. Showing some clove spice from 10% whole bunches, good structure, cool, refreshing acidity and bramble and black cherry fruit, it’s a very promising début. Drink 2019-26. 94 points
