John Gilman
Mitans can be one of the most black fruity of the premier crus in Volnay, but this year there is a nice blend of red and black fruit in the fine example from Domaine Lafarge. The reserved and vibrant nose delivers a lovely mix of cherries, plums, complex minerality, gamebirds, woodsmoke and a touch of espresso. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and quite spicy on the backend, with a lovely core, fine focus and grip, fine-grained tannins and a tangy and beautifully delineated finish. This will be a lovely example. 2022-2050. 91+ points
