After 30 years in the wine trade, the one thing I find people have most misconceptions about is blending. Virtually every wine we drink is a blend of some kind, even if of barrels of the same grape from the same vineyard. Abel and Maite Mendoza provide us with single varietal examples of the 5 varieties used here and wonderful though they are, this is greater than the sum of its parts - more complex, more compelling and more vivid. I had two vintages of this white wine, which mixes grape varieties, and the 2012 5V clearly show the difference of growing season, as it was a very warm, dry vintage with low yields and there is a myriad of toasty, slightly reductive aromas but at the same time more evolved notes, with some chemical (think diesel, Riesling-like) aromas. Perhaps it saw some skin contact? This seems to be aging quite fast; I`d drink it before the 2013. 90 points
