Scents of sage, resin, smoky black tea, and struck flint lend a site-typical reductive overtone to Donnhoff`s 2011 Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Riesling Spatlese, then pungently accent, and in so doing underscore the sheer lusciousness of Persian melon, mango, and blueberry. Polished, expansive and satin-textured yet insistently vibrant, there is a terrific persistence of both this wine’s almost gaudily ripe fruit and its pronouncedly pungent mineral and herbal elements. A lick of salt adds to the already mouthwatering appeal of a beauty that should not fade but remain utterly engaging for 20 (if not more) years. 94 points
