2009 Knockdhu, AD Rattray 8 yo 59.6%

Refill bourbon barrel
We`ve never had a Knockdhu before, so this marks an exciting new bottle for our shelves. The distillery does like to confuse the issue by often going under the name An Cnoc, but we haven`t had one of them either. It`s an eastern Speyside distillery (some whisky nerds insist it is better classified as Eastern Highlands), to be found by the Knock Hill and the Isla River, and is another survivor from the 19th century whisky boom. While this bottling has spent most of its life in a refill bourbon barrel, it has also seen 13 months in a first fill bourbon barrel (i.e. one which has never seen Scotch before). It carries the bourbon oak flavour well, complementing the custardy sweetness. (NT 04/09/17)
