2008 Kilchoman Vintage (Islay)

Only in production since 2005, Kilchoman was the first new distillery on Islay for 125 years. As a new distillery, most of the spirit they are releasing is naturally quite young, but the vintage releases see the bottling of older spirit - the 2008 vintage is a bottling of 7 year-old spirit, from a blend of fresh and refill bourbon casks. As peaty as most Kilchoman bottlings, this bottling also marries the greater depth that maturity brings with the butterscotch and clove sweetness from the bourbon barrels. A fine bottling from one of the newest members of the pantheon of Scottish distilleries. (NT 29/07/15)
