Craft gin for over 150 years
For five generations the Hayman family have been making gin in their traditional 'True English' method, indeed since the time of the first Gin Boom. 150 years later, gin is experiencing a second surge in popularity with all sorts of weird and wonderful variations appearing on the market. Hayman's gin remains a classic, however, and this family business continues to produce a fine spirit according to a traditional two-day process. 100% English wheat gives a neutral base against which the juniper, citrus and other botanical flavours can express themselves. Distillation takes place in a small-batch copper pot still.
Today, Christopher Hayman will be coming up from the Hayman HQ and distillery in Balham to present and taste through three gins from the range. First, we'll try the London Dry Gin based on ten different botanicals, the classic choice for a straightforward but delicious G&T. Next, we'll taste the Old Tom Gin, a richly flavoured, slightly sweeter style that is perfect for mixed cocktails such as the Victorian Martinez (said to have inspired the more modern Martini). And lastly, we'll round things off with a festive favourite, Sloe Gin - a bittersweet berry-infused gin that is delicious served neat or topped up with fizz for a celebratory tipple. Christopher will be on hand from midday until 2:30pm but the tasting will continue until 6:30pm as usual. /RRS
