Riesling: a place, a grape or a state of mind?

Two places of Riesling and quite close together. The Rheingau is a stretch of the Rhein where the river bends twice to give a brief area of south facing cliffs and steep slopes. This is where Leitz grow some of Germany's finest Rieslings. This forward-looking family firm are busy investing in both ancient terracing and super modern cellars and their eye is firmly on quality for the future.

Dönnhoff are Uncorked heroes and really should not need an introduction. They live on the Nahe, a tributary which joins the Rhein at Bingen, just opposite those Rheingau vineyards and also have dramatic slate cliffs with everything from blue slate to volcanic rock.

Josten & Klein are new to us. Marc and Torsten respectively met at their local Ahr valley co-op, where both families had sent their fruit for ages. They both knew their vineyards were capable of producing great, individual wines and collaborate to make delicious Ahr Pinots.
