Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Niellon work with old vines from choice sites, and the quality of their holdings shine through. Michel Niellon began working at his father`s side in the 1950s, and over the following decades built the outstanding reputation of this domaine. His son-in-law Michel Coutoux took over in the 1990s. Michel Coutoux in turn has been joined in recent years by his daughter Lucie, who has a formidable understanding of the nuances of vineyards and winemaking. Talking with her and tasting the wines here, it`s clear that this domaine is safe for another generation. The wines are focussed and mineral, briskly energetic, each with a strong sense of tense potential, and all clearly differentiated by their respective terroirs. (NT 13/04/26)
