Legendary wines from a true maestro
Giuseppe Quintarelli did not believe in rushing anything. High on his hilltop over Negrar, he let the vineyard grow slowly, never hurried in the cellar and certainly never rushed to market with his wines. He rarely left except to visit people like the Pope - he was deeply spiritual - and though he never advertised the fact, the gates were always open and a welcome always extended.
That lack of hurry means that we will be offering wines made by him for a few years yet. The joy of a Quintarelli wine, which takes you to a happy place where nothing matters except the complexity, depth and layers of what you are tasting, lies in its ability to transcend the humdrum of daily life. It is as if Giuseppe's contemplative side is manifested in these wines.
Rarity is a given with these, the Amabile del Cere takes this to a ridiculous level, with the 2003 the third vintage to appear in thirty years. It's inspiration was a barrel hidden from Nazis in WW2 and like most of these wines is a field blend. The Alzero is similarly a field blend, though with a lot of signature Cabernet Franc in it, while the Recioto, (apart from being a shoe-in for the Coravin user) is a must share with a significant other. But as with any of these wines, all you need to provide is a couple of decent glasses and a decanter. Giuseppe's magic will slowly unfold before your eyes. /CW
