From vines planted in 1960, in two lieu-dits on the southern flank of the hill: Corton Combes (downslope, though still in the grand cru section) and Les Chaumes et la Voie Rosse (on a higher, stony section – Voie Rosse evokes the red, iron-rich soils here). There’s lovely depth in the complex perfume that runs from kirsch through bramble to tobacco and black tea. Very long in the mouth. Impressive and appealing, this will age magnificently. 90% Voierosses. 10% Combes, red soil on top of limestone. One third tressed vines, one third new wood, one third whole bunch. Slightly paler than some, with a floral note, this is very far from a massive Corton. The depth of flavour, in darker fruit, arrives at the back, with an attractive crunch to finish. Understated but definitely fine. 92-94 points
