Alongside Clos des Mouches, Les Greves is the best (and most famous) of the Beaune premier crus, and makes rich, structured, long-lived wine. On steep, iron-rich soil, the vineyard is considered by some to be close to grand cru in quality. With gravel subsoils here, Robin Rapet likens the terroir to the Graves in Bordeaux. The bouquet is intense, showing cherry, rose petal and strawberry. The signature Rapet relatively light extraction allows the underlying minerality to show through the fruit, but there is still plenty of structure here. Rapet has used 30% whole bunch here, though that is not very evident here. A lovely, serious wine well worthy of consideration. (NT 23/12/24)

From higher up, Sur les Grèves, vines planted in 1960. A very light gravelly soil on a steep slope. Pale pink to ruby. A very elegant bouquet, fresh roses as well as alpine strawberries. The limestone feels close to the surface when you taste this. Elegant and persistent. 91-93 points
