2023 Jean Grivot Nuits-St-Georges Boudots
Secondary Description
Aux Boudots 1er Cru
At the very north of Nuits, on the border with Vosne (and the Vosne vineyard Malconsorts), steep, stony Aux Boudots is not easy to farm; Etienne Grivot reports he has broken a plough here more than once on the rock stratum that crosses the vineyard. But it has also given him a stunning, scintillating 2023. It opens with Vosne-like floral notes, but these are succeeded by fleshy cherries. The mid-palate is taut, the finish is explosive, and it leaves behind some surprisingly salty, mineral notes. A powerfully impressive wine that demands some elevage. (NT 05/12/24)

Jasper Morris MW
A fullish strawberry red to crimson. A complex nose, slightly higher pH in style, not one of the densest and most robust Boudots. However, there is a very considerable volume of fruit which builds on the palate, and starts to bring darker fruit notes at the back, along with good acidity. A saline touch too. 91-94 points

The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru is a blend of young vines planted in 2018 and old vines that Mathilde Grivot speculated could be up to a century old. The last vintage exclusively from the old vines was 2015. It has a complex bouquet, with a mixture of red and black fruit, potpourri, crushed minerals and light sea spray scents that evoke images of the sea. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit. It`s the spiciest of Grivot`s NSGs, with commendable weight and impressive minerality toward the focused, intense finish. This has a bright future ahead. 93-95 points
