2023 Catherine Marshall Sandstone Soils Pinot

Secondary Description
From two sites, one in Elgin (decompsed sandstone) and one in Hemel-en-Aarde Valley (sand and gravel over shale). Delicate, savoury aromas, with pretty red fruit, a restrained style which will build complexity with age. The finish is long, with black cherry lingering. (JH 24/04/2025)

Elgin is increasingly challenging the three Hemel-en-Aarde sub-regions as the leading source of South African Pinot Noir. This is a delightfully ethereal iteration of the 115 clone, with goji berry, hibiscus and pomegranate flavours, textured tannins and a savoury edge. Especially commendable in a tricky vintage like 2023. 94 points
