Chapelle de Maillac
Lirac lies just across the Rhone river from Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and offers a more approachable take on the grand and sometimes hard-to-read wines from over the river. As a Chateauneuf producer himself, Roger Sabon knows what good terroir looks like, and his Lirac holdings are excellent. This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and old-vine Carignan. Ripe tannins and sweet dark fruit conceal hidden depths of slate, rosemary and pepper. Vintage after vintage this is an absolute steal at its price point. Not so much a question of what food to pair this with, as what wouldn`t you pair it with? (NT 24/09/24)
