2019 Scions of Sinai Granietsteen Chenin

This Granietsteen Chenin is from 40 year old vines grown on the Helderberg mountain. It has extended skin contact from a long fermentation in old wood. There`s reduction here but plenty of fruit and pure mineral flavours and density of texture. (CW 24/07/20)

A stunning wine from Bernhard Bredell, the third vintage of Granietsteen comes from an old-vine block close to False Bay. Rich and concentrated, with some colour and tannic grip from 25% skin contact, the purity and focus that are a feature of the best Chenins on granite soils, subtle lees and just an echo of oak. Superb. Drink 2021-27. 95 points
