2019 Franzina Rosso di Valtellina (Lombardy)

Secondary Description
Grippy, bright wine which takes 20 minutes to open up before it really starts to express itself. Maraschino cherry, red berry, dried herbs and a classic Italian seam of savoury earth on the finish - excellent with rich foods which serve to soak up the ripe Nebbiolo tannin. This will probably be best from 2022 to 2027. (JH 10/08/2021)

Walter Speller

90% Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo), 10% Rossola and Merlina (Teroldego). Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel. 12 days of total skin maceration. Aged for 12 months in stainless steel only. Youthful mid to deep ruby. Gorgeous fresh alpine Nebbiolo nose with cherry, raspberry, iron and a hint of graphite and liquorice and with a peppery edge. Supple fruit palate with velvety tannins. Cranberry, cherry and raspberry on the finish. Distinctive, conveying a real sense of its alpine origin. 17+ points
