Located behind the house, on a mix of red and white wine soil. Steely style, not too ripe. Put this up against Caillerets and this does still work though it cannot quite compete. Medium length. 90-93 points

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Clos St Jean 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet with orange pith, mango and light petrolly scents (similar to those I discerned on the Les Mazures). The palate is well balanced with a sapid opening. Slightly honeyed in texture, this is definitely a spicy Chassagne with ginger and lemongrass lining the persistent finish. This has the upper hand over the Les Mazures. 91 points

Tank sample. A little richer on the nose than the Mazures with that lovely subtle smokiness that does nothing to diminish the fruit. Not quite as intense on the mid palate as the Mazures but beautifully fresh and precise. 16.5 points
