Julia Harding

59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 17% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc, pH 3.7. Deepest cherry red. Like the Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré, so open and welcoming on the nose, such depth of ripe but fresh and pure fruit. There`s tannin density and finesse at the same time, with a cool freshness on the finish as the tannins seem to go from dense to fine at the end. Juicy at the core even with all this tannin. Balanced and satisfying. Hint of spice on the finish. 17 points

Chris Kissack

From a 21-hectare vineyard between Léoville-Poyferré and Talbot, named for the lieu-dit. The blend is 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 17% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The large percentage of Petit Verdot mirrors the planting in the vineyard. A dark and fragrant, violet- and peony-infused nose, the Petit Verdot coming through with its typically floral notes. A very accomplished palate, totally in keeping with the successful style of the vintage, with a polished and yet sinewy weight of black olives, black beans and dried black cherries, supple and firmly wrapped up in velvety and tightly-knit tannins. This has great substance, and lots of energy too, with little black bean and praline notes and a tannic flourish in the finish. This is surely one of the best vintages ever from Moulin Riche. 93-95 points
