Jane Anson

This property is located right next to Haut Bailly, and has produced a wine that you would definitely be happy to own - it`s one of their best. Bruno le Moine is technical director. It`s a nicely balanced wine with good fruit extract and a succulent impact on the attack, managing to avoid any sense of being over the top. It has very good quality blackberry and slate notes, with hidden power. 93 points

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc; 40% new oak. Purple rim, black core. Lots of oak sweetness on the nose, though there’s ripe black fruit underneath. Blueberries and vanilla. That same sweetness on the palate but it is balanced by a freshness that many wines seem to lack. Super-smooth tannins, very flattering, even with, or because of, the oak sweetness. 16 points

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Larrivet Haut-Brion offers up notes of baked plums, stewed cherries and warm cassis with hints of wilted roses, bouquet garni and raisin cake. Medium-bodied with a good amount of spicy baked berries flavors, the palate has a clever structure of soft tannins and lovely freshness, finishing with an herbal lift. 91-93 points

Antonio Galloni

A bold, powerful wine, the 2018 Larrivet Haut-Brion speaks with real authority. Smoke, dried flowers, raspberry jam and mint infuse the 2018 with tons of pungent flavor intensity and Cabernet character. Muscular tannins give the wine drive and energy through to the finish. There is so much to admire. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot. Tasted two times. 89-92 points

This is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, picked at a yield of 34.5 hl/ha. The alcohol is 13.6%. I get smoked cherry on the nose, a finely grained character, very precise in style. The palate shows a sinewy vein in keeping with the nose, with a supple and tightly defined substance through the middle, with real dep th, integration and balance here. This feels totally correct, with just a little brooding character to it, and it is very fresh despite all its dark fruit and tightly grained, velvety tannins. A second sample tasted later in the week was rather more reductive, but still displayed the same delightfully elegant silky texture as well as a sense of energy. Very good indeed. The élevage will be in 40% new oak and 60% second-fill oak. Tasted twice. 92-94 points
