The name ‘Vaucrains’ derives from ‘vaux-rien’, or low worth, due to the low yields typical of the vineyard. With a modern average of 20-22hl/ha, that continues to this day. The vineyard is the steep, up-slope continuation of Les St-Georges. Gouges have to some extent tamed the very powerful, strict tannins also typical of the site with very gentle winemaking practices. 20% new oak. Plum, red cherry, violet and a dusting of sweet spice. Delightful aromatics, in a serious, powerful wine. (NT 08/01/20)
