Jane Anson

This has good quality dark, concentrated fruits with rich flavours and the characteristic silky tannins of the vintage. Harvest ran from 17 September to 6 October. Eric Boissenot consults. 40% new oak. 6% Petit Verdot makes up the blend.Drink 2026 - 2038. 92 points

Julia Harding

67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc; 40% new oak.Darkest crimson rim with black core. Elderberry-like tangy fruit. Juicy in the middle even with the layers of dryish tannins. But the finish is rather too dry for overall harmony. 15.5 points

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cantemerle delivers notions of crème de cassis, raisin cake and prunes with hints of Chinese five spice and dusty soil. Full-bodied and boldly fruited with dried berries and fruit preserves, it has a firm, chewy texture and just enough freshness, finishing spicy. 86-88 points

Antonio Galloni

The 2018 Cantemerle is a soft, easygoing wine with only limited depth. The challenges of the growing season are impossible to escape in this fleeting, light-weight effort. The 2018 offers good immediacy, but is also a bit lacking in depth and persistence. Graphite, dark spice and blackberry open up nicely. Severe hail took with it 50% of the crop. 86-88 points

This is a blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. The yield is 33hl/ha, the alcohol 13.3%. The nose is full of polished dark summer fruits, dried black cherry swirled with peony scents, touched with notes of vanilla pod and chalk dust. It feels no less convincing on the palate, showing a very complete style, medium-bodied, gripped and yet rather velvety, very complete, with some tightly grained tannins and fresh acidity. It remains full and grippy in the finish, with a long fade of tannic substance. Well done. The élevage will be in 40% new oak, 40% second-fill oak, the rest in older barrels. 93-95 points
