Tim James
Near-equal blend cab, partly bunch-ferment cinsaut (both Stellenbosch) & carignan (Wellington). 2017 pure-fruited, energetic gorgeousness from fragrant start to lingering dry finish. Firm tannic structure but juicy & fresh; core of sweet red fruit, with wild cherry note. Older oak only, as 2016 (93 pts). 94 points

This unusual cuvée of more or less equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carignan comes from Stellenbosch and Wellington. It’s a firm, floral, stony wine with plenty of acidity, notes of mint and wild herbs and a structured finish. Drink 2020-25. 91 points
