The 2016 Ch Laroque is perfumed with wild blackberry fruit and a touch of oak. On the palate there is more plummy dark fruit flavours, a fine touch of graphite and suave tannins. It finishes on black and very juicy fruit. The structure here, both the tannins and the freshness are masterful and a great start of David Suire who obviously got his eye in during the 2015 vintage. He spent his early days at the property digging myriad holes across the vineyards in order to make a detailed geological survey and this has affected how the wine is picked and vinified. The 2016 Laroque offers attractive dark berry fruit on the nose, a hint of tea leaf infusing the blackberry and raspberry fruit. I admire the definition in situ - quite refined and certainly very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe black cherry and boysenberry driven entry. The warmth of the summer comes through towards its second half, whereupon it just loses a touch of precision, but otherwise this is a commendable Saint Emilion from the large estate towards St Christophe des Bardes. 90-92 points

This is an attractive wine with darkly spiced fruits and good acidity that`s just giving out the right amount of mouthwatering tension. I`m not sure I`ve tasted a better example of this wine. The blend is 95% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 93 points

The best ever made! This is the second complete vintage under David Suire, who also manages Larcis Ducasse with a success we have now become accustomed to. A beautiful dark, deep purple colour. An intense, fine, fruity, fresh and ripe nose. After a fleshy and very soft attack on the palate the wine develops with mellowness, a gentle mouthfeel and with flavour and energy towards a long sappy and scented finish with nuances of citrus fruit coming through. The 2016 is therefore the most complete and fleshy Laroque I’ve known to date. Bravo ! 92 points

The 2016 Laroque is an engaging, open-knit Saint-Émilion. Bright red cherry, raspberry and floral notes, along with silky tannins, give the 2016 much of its immediacy and sheer appeal. It will be interesting to see what winemaker David Suire can coax from this site in the coming years. 89-92 points
