2016 Equipo Navazos La Bota No.101 Manzanilla

2016 vintage. This is a young vintage Manzanilla made with the same juice as La Bota de Florpower 84 MMXVI (2016) – Palomino from Miraflores La Baja vineyard. It is the same wine but fortified up to 15% and aged in cask as Manzanilla but it stays for almost three years in the same cask – ie it is not part of a solera system. Screwcap. TA 4.8 g/l, pH 3.15. Very pale gold. A little more delicate on the nose than the I Think, like a revved up version of the 99 Florpower MMXIX (which has no fortification and neither flor nor cask influence). More smoky and mineral but also a note of wild grasses. Brine and seaside. But there’s a hint of yeast extract too, adding umami. Amazing intensity of salty-sharp tangy, juicy flavours. Both delicate and super-intense. Complex in that it is both vinous (wine-like) and sherry-like and has perhaps a slight hint of something smoky to offset the nutty oxidative flavour of biological ageing. Terrific wine with great persistence. All umami on the finish, and beautifully fresh thanks to the very low pH even if the TA is quite low. Mouth-watering in the extreme. 17.5 points
