The small size of this left-bank property (twelve hectares) allows its manager, Justin Onclin, to focus on the precision and purity of the wines he produces, as well as achieving his second ambition of respecting and paying close attention to the estate`s history and roots. Having taken over in 2002, Onclin went on to make some major changes, including the installation of a gravity-flow cellar and more detailed and sustainable plot-by-plot growing and vinification. Combining his commitment to heritage with a modern take on wine making, the result is both classic and expressive. (RRS 30/10/18)

The 2016 Branas Grand Poujeaux is always one of the classiest offerings from Moulis and this is no different. very delineated and complex on the nose with black fruit, tobacco, wild heather and cedar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, a superb line of acidity and seamlessly integrated new oak towards the finish. Sophisticated and captivating. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London. 92 points

A very attractive nose to this wine, fresh and pure, with blackcurrant fruit plus a little dusting of sweet icing sugar. The palate shows a fresh and substantial presence, with an attractive weight of sweet blackcurrants and juniper berry fruits, with an ample backbone of ripe and firm tannins, giving the wine a good grip through the middle and finish. A very accomplished style coming from this corner of Bordeaux. 93 points
