Eric Guido
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura from Banfi impresses with a dark, savory and exotic display, with woodland berries, sage, ashen soil tones and hints of tobacco. There are depths of silky textures here, lifted by cooling minerality and hints of mint. Its red and black fruits are polished, as this shows wonderful symmetry and poise, with flavors of licorice, dark chocolate and purple-tinged florals toward the close. You can feel its youthful structure, but there are plenty of primary components here to balance them out. Very nice. 92 points
