This wine comes from Liguria in north-west Italy. It’s just a short distance from the French border on the coast and the terroir is limestone and clay terraces, which are extremely steep and hard to work. This Rossesse is known as Tibouren in Provence and nobody knows whether it went from Liguria to France or vice versa. It is a difficult grape to grow, which you can discern from the fact that there are fewer than 280 known hectares in the world. But its growers are fiercely loyal to this temperamental variety. Crunchy red fruit and a garriguey, herbal character here. (CW 23/04/18)
