2014 Weinrieder Gruner Veltliner Eiswein

I find this an astonishing wine, a varietal work of wonder. All the sweetness you expect from a properly made Eiswein, lifted by fresh acidity - and then pure, unexpected Gruner Veltliner character, very fennel and liquorice, grass and white pepper. It culminates in a lingering, herbal finish. From Austria`s large Weinviertel, where half of the vineyards are planted to Gruner Veltliner, comes this unexpected Gruner masterpiece. (NT 17/04/18)
