Even trendier than `natural` wine (whatever that is), volcanic wine has acquired a gloss of recent adherents as desperate journalists look for something new to fill their columns. Their focus tends toward the taller, more glamorous cones yet under our noses we have Soave. The Gargarnega planted on the higher slopes of this small volcano produces fantastic, complex, ageworthy wines in strong contrast to the industrial swill made on the flat lands by the autostrada below. This has notes of blue flower, marzipan and stone fruit with freshness and barely a trace of the subtle oaking. (CW 15/06/17)

Jancis Robinson
Zest and focus on the nose. Really impressive build on the finish. This is serious wine! Not heavy but with masses of extract. Very flattering. But dry on the finish – flattering through sheer quality not sweetness. 17 points
