2014 Aile d`Argent (Bordeaux Blanc)

Grippy, and although balanced, hasn`t yet achieved harmony. It`s a tad phenolic at this stage - a touch raw, but it will pull together. (CW 30/03/15)

Jean-Marc Quarin

Blended with two thirds Sauvignon and one third Semillon. Malolactic fermentation took place in about 10% of the batches. To avoid oxidation, bottling will be carried out next May. Menthol and spice on the nose. Caresses the palate. Big sappy finish. Delicious. 92 points

The Aile d’Argent 2014 Blanc is a blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Sémillon. It does not quite possess the complexity of the previous two vintages, but there are fine pear skin and nectarine scents to enjoy. The palate is fresh and citric on the entry: green apple, Conference pear and a dash of lemongrass, leading to a punchy, spicy finish. Fine-but not a top-tier Aile d`Argent. 88-90 points

Mouton`s white comes from five different parcels, all of them in Pauillac, and it`s always a delicious, creamy blend, with flavours of grapefruit and fresh herbs and a stone fruit undertone. The new oak percentage has been reduced to good effect and now stands at 40%. Only 18,000 bottles made, alas. 93 points
