2013 Taupenot-Merme Charmes Chambertin
Secondary Description
This is a much more expressive nowe. There is some real perfume, serious tannin, a bigger wine altogether, more complex, muscular fruit. The family only used to make one Charmes until 2000, when Romain divided the MAzoyeres. (CW 04/11/14)

The 2013 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a gorgeous floral bouquet with ebullient red cherries and wild strawberry scents, a fine mineral core just underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, touches of orange rind and spice toward the finish that is linear and strict at the moment, but will open up once in bottle. Very fine. 92-94 points

The domaine’s Charmes-Chambertin has turned out beautifully in 2013, as it offers up a nicely reserved and very classy aromatic constellation of red and black cherries, venison, coffee mustard seed, woodsmoke, a touch of new wood and an absolutely superb base of soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and rock solid at the core, with great balance, suave,
ripe tannins and excellent length and grip on the nascently complex and very pure finish. A great
bottle of Charmes in the making. 2023-2060. 94+ points
