2013 Pontet-Canet (Pauillac)

Secondary Description
15 hl/ha, which is less than half of the 2012 yield. It was aged in 50% new oak, 35% amphora and 20% used oak. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. They`ve changed from fermentation eggs to amphorae to have a narrower base and a bit less skin contact, and to less oak to allow full expression of the fruit. In summary, this has pretty red fruit on nose and palate. There is good acidity, so freshness and minerality, beautiful texture with a superfine granular texture, energy and life. Proper wine. Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2013 Pontet-Canet is evolving into tobacco, new leather and dried mulberries scents with a core of kirsch, baked plums and cigar box plus a waft of Indian spices. Medium-bodied, elegantly styled and wonderfully refreshing in the mouth, it has a solid line of grainy tannins and loads of mineral sparks on the finish. 92 points An aromatic wine with exceptional delicacy and suppleness for the vintage, featuring blackberry, mineral, spice and flower character. Very fine tannins. Seamless structure. It’s a wine with a pleasant savory, fruity character that makes you want to drink it. Harmonious. 92-93 points
