From three parcels of 60, 40, and 20 year old vines, the 2013 Hudelot-Noellat Nuits 1er Cru Murgers exhibits sweet, ripe fruit with firm but fine tannic structure, relatively low acidity and balanced, nicely ripe fruit. (CW 03/11/14)

The 2013 Murgers was the first wine in the line that had not yet been racked, and it was a touch reduced at the time of my visit, but its ultimate quality was self-evident. With a bit of coaxing, the nose offers up scents of cherries, pomegranate, nutskin, gamebirds, fresh herb tones, lovely soil nuances and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and quite soil-driven in personality, with ripe tannins, excellent focus and balance and a long, tangy and still quite primary finish. 2023-2060. 91-92+ points

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers has a cohesive bouquet with red currant, raspberry and just a touch of tinned peach, quite Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, the oak needing a little more time to fully integrate. But it is endowed with a pleasant, endearing spiciness, almost fieriness that lends the finish intrigue. This has finesse and focus, constituting and supremely well-crafted 2013. 91-93 points
