The 2013 Bas de Combe from Monsieur Van Canneyt is also outstanding and is really transparent out of the blocks this year. The superb aromatic constellation delivers notes of red and black cherries, a touch of blood orange, nutskin, gamebird, woodsmoke, a superb base of soil and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully reflective of its underlying soil tones, with a fine core of fruit, bright acids and a long, ripely tannic and perfectly balanced finish. A beautiful wine. 2020-2045. 91 points

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges Bas de Combes was showing a lot of reduction on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, ripe black cherry and raspberry fruit, a touch of sea salt and a gentle grip. A little masculine on the finish with good structure and acidity, this is a fine and quite sophisticated Nuits Saint Georges in the making. 90-92 points
